Melissa Monteiro is the Chief Executive Officer of the Community Migrant Resource Centre.
Having a bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Social Work, Melissa has extensive experience of over 27 years within the community Sector. With far reaching experience in the community not for profit sector, she is well versed in building relationships and managing diverse stakeholders including government, for mutually beneficial outcomes. Based in Western Sydney , Melissa currently manages a multi-disciplinary medium size not for profit across a large portfolio, including child protection, settlement services, women, families, domestic violence, youth, and business services in NSW.
She has focussed on the intersectionality of resettlement stressors by investing in multiple service delivery strategies while ensuring that ‘prevention’ and ‘early intervention’ design and delivery programs are responsive to the unique strengths and needs of diverse communities.
As a Pro Bono Australia, IMPACT Australia 21 winner and Salvation Army Multicultural Ambassador appointed in 2020, she has advocated on behalf of the vulnerable groups, representing their interests at all levels of government.
Melissa is an Executive Board Member on various Local and National Advisory Boards / Committees. She is the Chair of the Settlement Council of Australia (SCOA), steering committee member of the WPS, WOMEN Peace and Security Coalition of Australia , member of the NSW Police Multicultural Advisory Council and Board Director at NSW Western Sydney Local Health District WSLHD.
Melissa was primary investigator and partnered with the WSU (Western Sydney University) on numerous research studies including Sexual and Reproductive Health of Migrant and Refugee Women.
