Are you a migrant or refugee who wants to shape the news debate on a range of topics? Do you have a personal story of migration or settlement to share with the Australian media? Or are you a subject matter expert or community leader who can provide a migrant lens on emerging issues?

If you answered yes to any of the above, SCOA’s media talent database may be the place for you.

SCOA’s Stories of Multicultural Australia project seeks to address the severe underrepresentation of migrants and refugees in mainstream media and to help people with lived experience to shape the conversation on a range of topics in Australian news media.

SCOA is currently looking for the following people to join our database:

  • People with lived experience of migration, including refugees and asylum seekers
  • Subject matter experts from migrant backgrounds
  • Established or emerging community leaders representing migrants or people from culturally diverse backgrounds

Once registered on our database, SCOA will become the primary contact between media talent and the journalist to help facilitate more inclusive, informed and respectful reporting.

Prior media experience is not required.

SCOA is looking for diversity of voice and views, and if a media opportunity comes up, we will guide you every step of the way.

Database participants will be invited to join our community of storytellers and experts and will have access to our quarterly Stories of Multicultural Australia e-newsletter, which will feature upcoming interview opportunities, and useful resources to help prepare for media interviews. Ongoing support will also be provided before, during, and following any media interviews.

SCOA is a proud TEST signatory advocating for Safe, Ethical Storytelling

The Stories of Multicultural Australia project has been designed to facilitate ethical, informed and inclusive reporting. As part of the program, participants also have access to peer-to-peer networking, mentoring, translation services, and legal and mental wellbeing support services.

You may opt out of the database at any time, and your contact details or information will not be shared with journalists without prior consent.
