SCOA is pleased to express its strong support for Refugee Education Australia’s submission to the Inquiry into the Factors Driving Educational Attainment. From a settlement perspective, education is not simply one policy domain among many. It is one of the most significant determinants of long-term participation, social cohesion and economic inclusion. Educational experiences shape employment pathways, civic participation, health outcomes, community connections and intergenerational mobility. When students from refugee and forced migration backgrounds are unable to access equitable educational opportunities, the consequences extend far beyond the classroom and are felt across families, communities and the broader Australian economy.
