Ishar – Providing women’s health services for over 25 years
Ishar Multicultural Women’s Health Services provides holistic health services to women from a migrant or refugee background. Ishar operates with a philosophy grounded in the ‘Social Model of Health’ and has adopted a style of service that focuses on the healing of lifestyle related problems that detrimentally affect the health and wellbeing of women of all ages, particularly those from a culturally and linguistically diverse background. The ‘medical’ condition of women seeking the services is not separated from the real life interconnections of personal, social, cultural, economic, race, age and gender related problems.
Ishar offers a range of programs including a Women’s Health clinic, Psychological counselling, a Domestic Violence support service (with one on one and group support), Antenatal services, Mother’s groups, Family Support services, Exercise groups, Dietitian clinic, Settlement support, Carers group and 40+ Women’s group.
Medical services are bulk billed and other services are provided free of charge or at minimal cost. Crèche facilities are available at all groups and interpreters are available on request.
Ishar is the only women’s health center in WA that provides specialised services for humanitarian refugee and migrant women.
More than 2,000 women visit the centre each year, many of them attending multiple programs. They include over 80 ethnicities and speak over 60 languages.
