SCoA Welcomes New Ministers – 27 August 2018

SCoA warmly congratulates the Hon Scott Morrison MP on his appointment as Prime Minister of Australia and welcomes his new Cabinet that has officially been sworn in today.

In particular, SCoA welcomes the Hon Paul Fletcher MP, the newly announced Minister for Families and Social Services, together with Sarah Henderson MP, Assistant Minister for Social Services, Housing and Disability Services and Michelle Landry MP, Assistant Minister for Children and Families.

Speaking from Canberra today, SCoA Chairperson Dewani Bakkum extended her warm welcome to Minister Fletcher and Assistant Ministers Henderson and Landry: “SCoA looks forward to a positive working relationship with the newly appointed Ministers, and will continue to support them in the pursuit of positive settlement outcomes for all new Australians” she said.

Minister Fletcher takes over the responsibility for the social services portfolio from the Hon Dan Tehan MP, who has moved on to the education portfolio. SCoA thanks Minister Tehan for his support of the settlement sector as Social Services Minister, together with his Assistant Ministers David Gillespie MP and Jane Prentice MP. “We have long enjoyed a respectful and productive relationship with Minister Tehan and his team and wish them all well in their new roles” said Ms Bakkum.

SCoA would also like to extend a warm welcome to Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs, the Hon David Coleman MP.

SCoA celebrates the government’s ongoing commitment to Australia’s dynamic cultural diversity and the delivery of world-leading settlement services to migrants from a refugee background. We will continue to work with all levels of government on behalf of the settlement sector to ensure effective settlement outcomes are achieved for all migrants who make Australia their home.
