MEMBERSHIP: Associate Member

Blue Mountains Tibetan Community provides support to newly arrived Tibetan refugees settling in the Blue Mountains area down to Penrith and  
 
The key services that the organization has been availing to the local Tibetan refugees (about 60 members) are targeted ones and include: 


1. one to one in person of form filling support of Centrelink payments, enrolment at TAFE NSW, Creation of Tax file number, Housing application etc, 
2. foster connections among the refugee, migrant groups as well as the local community, 
2. facilitate cultural and spiritual needs. 
3. settlement related information sessions as and when needed in person and via social media app group i.e recently we encouraged the community members to participate in the SCOA program Lived Experienced Advisory Group (LEAG) 
4. provide referral services to local service providers including to: 
               a. Centrelink,  
               b. TAFE NSW,  
               c. Thrive Services  
               d. Blue Mountains Refugee Support Group,  
               e. the Neighborhood Centre and 
               f. the local Buddhist center. 
5. Facilitate weekend Tibetan language and cultural classes, 
6. Host group meetings such as celebration of His Holiness Dalai Lama’s birthday: these events are attended by State, Federal and Local Representatives and Indigenous elders, 
7. The refugee community is very well respected by the local Indigenous elders, Blue Mountains City Council representatives including the Mayor, Councilors, NSW State MP for Katoomba, and the Federal MP for Macquarie and the local community for their contribution to the local fabric via societally and economically.
