Community Engagement Framework and Toolkit

Community Engagement Framework

What is the Framework?

SUPPORT SELF-AGENCY

Facilitating self-determination for ethno-specific communities to lead decision-making processes.

Should be used when ethno-specific communities initiate efforts, for capacity building, and to foster independence and autonomy. While all activities should be done with the goal of ensuring community and individual agency, in this aspect, formal service providers have the least involvement.

CONSULT

Gathering ethno-specific communities feedback on various matters, such as policy, programs, and services.

Should be used for policy advocacy, service design, and when building ongoing relationships.

PARTNER

Partnering closely with ethno-specific communities in decision-making, including solution development.

Should be used in resource-rich situations, for co-design, and in advocacy work.

INFORM

Providing balanced information to help ethno-specific communities understand issues and make informed decisions.

Should be used when communities need continuous information, during changes in laws or rules, and for orientation.

INVOLVE

Collaborating with ethno-specific communities throughout the process, ensuring consistent consideration of community concerns.

Should be used when time allows for deeper engagement, for ongoing network building, and to demonstrate long-term commitment.
