CALD Participants and the NDIS Act Review

Oct 15, 2019 | Helpful Information and Resources

Please see update from DSS below:

As you may be aware, on 12 August, Minister Robert announced the appointment of Mr David Tune to lead a Review of the National Disability Insurance Scheme Act, and develop a Participant Service Guarantee. The Guarantee will set new standards for the time it takes for key steps in the NDIS process. This means there will be shorter, agreed timeframes for people to get their access decision, to have their NDIS plan approved and to have their plan reviewed.

From 26 August, DSS released consultation materials on Engage, including Overview material, a Discussion paper, and a Survey to get a sense of participant experiences. DSS has also organised Community Workshops in every state and territory that will be co-facilitated by stakeholder engagement experts and people with disabilities.

As the Survey and Discussion Paper are available in 13 different languages, DSS would appreciate it if you could circulate them through your networks and ensure we can reach CALD individuals who may be engaging with the NDIS. While the consultation period formally closes on 31 October, DSS are happy to receive submissions to the Discussion Paper and completed surveys from the CALD community by the end of first week of November. DSS will arrange for the translation of responses if they are provided in one of the 13 different languages in which we have provided resources.

There are also specific workshops being organised for CALD people with disability by our consultation facilitator The Social Deck, in conjunction with state and territory disability organisations in Perth, Melbourne and Brisbane, depending on confirmation. If you would like to reach out to The Social Deck and discuss the arrangements for these workshops, please email them at engage@thesocialdeck.com and get in touch.
