On 4 March 2019, SCoA attended the second stakeholder group meeting for the National Multicultural Mental Health Project, following on from last year’s meeting in October 2018. Mental Health Australia is the lead organisation carrying out the project, in partnership with FECCA and NEDA to provide a national focus on mental health for CALD communities in Australia.
The meeting hosted a range of high calibre participants from all fields, ranging from service providers, practitioners, peak bodies, the Department of Health and many others.
The robust discussions centered on communication strategies, the National Multicultural Mental Health Project framework and also long term project. SCoA reiterated that people from refugee and migrant backgrounds must have access to appropriate, affordable and quality health services and interventions, as mentioned in SCoA’s NSSOS standard.
SCoA sends its thanks to the Mental Health Australia team and its partners on hosting a successful stakeholder group meeting. We look forward to seeing this important work develop and will be actively involved with further stages of the process.
