SCoA’s third triennial, and first international, conference was held in Melbourne in May 2016. Over 3 days, record numbers of domestic and international policymakers and practitioners turned out to discuss the future of Australia’s refugee settlement policies and practices and hear from eminent speakers from around the world.
The conference theme ‘Settlement and Citizenship in a Civil Society’ brought together the settlement sector, communities, service groups, academics, corporate and legal organisations and individuals from across the globe to build on current settlement knowledge, practice and community participation within a globalized multicultural society.
The conference provided an important opportunity for the sector to collaborate and share current thinking, research and best practice from around the globe. The conference report and its recommendations highlights the messages heard throughout the conference and will help shape the sector’ focus locally, nationally and internationally.
