Coffee with a cop (CORE Community Services)

CORE Community Services Partners with Fairfield City Area Command for Coffee with a cop

CORE Community partners with the NSW Police and a wide range of other services such as Legal Aid NSW, Settlement Service International and Navitas English to deliver monthly Coffee with a Cop sessions targeting newly arrived refugee and migrant communities in the Fairfield LGA. The sessions, which started in June 2018, aim to foster one-on-one conversation between such communities and local police and to break the barriers and misconceptions about the police.

The last Coffee with a Cop session in Fairfield was held on the 14th January 2019 at Tella Balls Wetherill Park Shopping Centre. It attracted over 200 participants from refugee and migrant backgrounds. Activities included provision of information on Australian law, the role of the police, rights and responsibilities of citizens and a range of other support services.

Community feedback to date about the initiative has been overwhelmingly positive. The sessions will therefore continue to be organised in various locations in Fairfield LGA throughout 2019.
